The workshop on “human resources training, research conducting and technology transfer in agriculture in Son La province" took place at Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) on February 22, 2019. From VNUA, attending the workshop were Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong, VNUA’s vice president, Dr. Nguyen Van Quan - Deputy Director of the Center for Public Relations and Student Supports, Dr. Chu Anh Tiep - Deputy Director of the Organic Agriculture Center, and representatives of functional offices and faculties. From Son La province, there were Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong -Deputy Director of Son La Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Luu Binh Khiem - Rector of Son La Agriculture and Forestry College, Mr. Duong Gia Định - Director of the Plantation and Plant Protection Department, Mr. Đoàn Đức Lân - Vice Rector of Tay Bac University, representatives of Ngoc Lan Cooperative, Duy Khanh Trading Joint Stock Company.
Opening the workshop, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong addressed that “The relationship between VNUA and Son La province has been built right from the first days of establishment of the university. Over the years, this relationship has been increasingly expanded through training, scientific research and technology transfer. VNUA with highly qualified and professional staff has been, along with Son La province, conducting many research projects that produced practical and valuable results. The technology transfer by VNUA has been also implemented well at the locality”

Presentations at the workshop focused on the current situation of human resource training, scientific research in the agricultural sector in Son La and solutions to promote efficiency in human resource training and technology transfer between VNUA and Son La province. Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Son La stated that: “Son La is a mountainous province, located in the northwest of Vietnam , owning favorable conditions for developing crops such as vegetables, flowers, medicinal plants, and fruit trees; livestock and aquatic products; and fruits with large scale production and diversification. With the tendency of technology 4.0, Son La expects VNUA to strengthen its strengths in fields such as veterinary medicine, agricultural economics, agronomy, animal husbandry, economic management; developing high-tech applications in selecting, creating and breeding plants, animals and aquatic products with high productivity, and promoting production, preservation and processing of agricultural products. With the technical supports of enthusiastic and experienced staff of the university, Son La province will have a new development in organic agriculture, a sector that Son La province is very interested in ”

Concluding the workshop, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong expressed his appreciation on valuable comments and recommendations for the VNUA and Son La cooperation development. He hopes that VNUA and Son La Province would see new steps in the process of cooperation in the coming time.
